There is a limited supply of bitcoins that can ever exist, with a total cap of 21 million. Currently, around 19 million bitcoins have been mined and are in circulation, leaving approximately 2 million left to be mined.

21 Million Bitcoin!

The total supply of Bitcoin is capped at 21 million BTC. This limit is hardcoded into Bitcoin’s protocol to ensure scarcity and prevent inflation.

Current Bitcoin Supply (as of March 2025): Circulating Supply: Around 19.6 million BTC have been mined. Remaining Supply: Less than 1.4 million BTC left to be mined. Last Bitcoin Mined: Estimated around the year 2140 due to the halving cycles. Bitcoin Halving & Supply Schedule: Every 210,000 blocks (approximately every 4 years), the block reward given to miners is cut in half:

2009 – 50 BTC per block 2012 – 25 BTC per block 2016 – 12.5 BTC per block 2020 – 6.25 BTC per block 2024 (Upcoming in April) – 3.125 BTC per block 2028 – 1.5625 BTC per block … and so on.

Because of this decreasing issuance, Bitcoin becomes scarcer over time, reinforcing its "digital gold" narrative.
