Blockchain is a distributed database

It is more correct to say that the blockchain stores information about transactions. Other information can be stored by blockchains that support smart contracts. As far as I know, saving information is quite an expensive operation, so information in such systems is stored in IPFS in the form of documents, and hashes of these documents are stored in smart contracts
